Sebastian Lutz – La Danza (Big City Beats)

Posted: June 5th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Rezensionen | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Ian Pooley – In Other Words (Ministry Of Sound)

Posted: June 4th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Rezensionen | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

Finn Johannsen – Having And Having

A mix I contributed to the excellent blog Another Night On Earth, which sadly seems not to be active anymore. Blogs were really important in those days. I read a lot of them and I tried to support them with mixes as well. Then along came Facebook and whatever else followed, and killed off the whole scene. And now the blog spirit is back at platforms like substack, because so many people yearn for such content again. It’s a funny world.

And yet another guest spot at Hamburg’s cherished Betalounge location. Well I told you before how much I loved playing there. If, as usual, I was playing records there that I selected for a gig in town later, that gig was probably a good one, as it contains a lot of records I always loved to play. I remember people hanging out during my set there asking me about Minako’s “Town”, a Japanese disco gem. Hamburg clubbers are often very knowledgeable about music so that surprised me. Result!

40 Thieves – Don’t Turn It Off (Permanent Vacation)

Posted: May 4th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Rezensionen | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Naheliegend, aber jetzt erst ausgeführt: Hot Chocolate’s Sleaze-Klassiker „Don’t Turn It Off“ als Modern Boogie.

Blaktroniks – Mechanized Soul (Rubaiyat)

Posted: May 4th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Rezensionen | Tags: , , , , , , , | No Comments »

Interview: Hercules & Love Affair

You managed to get in the spotlight pretty quickly on the back of strong singles on DFA records. Can you shed some light on the project and how it came to fruition?

The project has been developing over a couple of years. I have written music since childhood, and started collaborating with friends on electronic music projects in college. Antony from Antony & The Johnsons tracked some vocals for the Hercules project as long as four years ago. About a year and a half ago, Daniel Wang, a good friend and mentor to me suggested I present the music to DFA. He set up a meeting with them for me, and the rest is history.

How did the collaborations come about? How and why did you pick the people to work with?

The collaborations occurred quite organically, through friendships. Antony and I were friends for a while before we recorded “Blind”. Kim Ann and I as well, before “Classique” or “Athene”. And Nomi, I knew for a while before having her record for me as well. So, historically it has been about using the voices in my personal life. Read the rest of this entry »

Druffmix 13 – Cruising Decay

There were the two veteran goth girls generously trying to teach goth dance moves to a veteran mod in the backyard of a hater’s party where the wall once stood. One deckchair, a bench, and a table were destroyed in the process. The veteran goth girls were still able to perform the moves most authentically, but the veteran mod failed disastrously due to stubborn groovyness, and not being able to remember that it’s one step forward, two steps back, and not the other way round. He could not produce the claws of desperation and a doomed expression either. This for you, veteran goth girls!
